Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, June 9, 2026, a pedestrian collision left a man in critical condition, according to KBAK.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 10:20 PM in the 1600 block of Golden State Avenue.
Authorities said the man was crossing the road outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a white Toyota hatchback. He was found suffering from severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition at the time of reporting.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Driver impairment and excessive speed do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
No additional details regarding the identities of those involved had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians
Drivers have a duty of care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim to ensure they get proper medical treatment and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
