Monterey Park Man, 70, Killed in Big Rig Crash on I-5 near Westley Rest Area

Stanislaus County, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, June 4, 2026, a single-vehicle big rig collision resulted in the death of a 70-year-old man from Monterey Park, according to FOX40.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:15 PM on southbound Interstate 5 south of the Westley Rest Area near Patterson.

Authorities said a red 2011 Freightliner tractor-trailer combination traveled off the road to the left, struck the center median guardrail, and overturned onto its left side within the center median.

The driver was found trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication before being airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital. He was later transferred to UC Davis Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The roadway was blocked for several hours while the vehicle was recovered before being reopened.

No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
