Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, May 26, 2026, a collision with a big rig resulted in the death of a 25-year-old man, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:54 PM on eastbound Highway 58 east of Towerline Road.
Authorities said the 25-year-old was driving a 2025 Nissan Sentra westbound on Highway 58 at approximately 85 to 90 miles per hour when he allegedly made an unsafe turning movement that caused the vehicle to go out of control, cross the dirt and brush center median, and enter the eastbound lanes.
The Nissan collided with a 2023 Kenworth three-axle tractor and two-axle semi-trailer combination traveling eastbound at approximately 55 miles per hour, driven by a 35-year-old man. The driver of the Nissan sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Kenworth was not injured.
A 2019 Porsche Panamera traveling eastbound directly behind the Kenworth at approximately 65 to 70 miles per hour sustained damage from airborne debris resulting from the collision. The driver of the Porsche was not injured.
Investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
