Davis, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, May 7, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision resulted in a woman losing her life after being ejected from a motorcycle, according to KCRA, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:40 PM on eastbound Interstate 80 near the Richards Boulevard exit.
Authorities said a motorcycle carrying a male driver and a female passenger was traveling behind a black 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck when traffic began slowing. The motorcycle struck the rear of the pickup truck, ejecting the female passenger into an adjacent lane directly in front of a white big rig with green trailers.
The big rig reportedly struck the woman, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcycle driver was not injured. All vehicles remained at the scene following the collision.
A SigAlert was issued closing the number one and two eastbound lanes of Interstate 80, with no estimated time of reopening at the time of issue. CAL FIRE Battalion Chief and emergency personnel responded to the scene.
A tow was requested for the motorcycle, which sustained major front-end damage. All lanes were reopened at approximately 5:20 PM following the conclusion of on-scene proceedings.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been contributing factors in the crash. No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
