Fresno, CA – On the evening of Friday, April 17, 2026, a collision resulted in a pedestrian losing her life on State Route 99, according to KSEE/KGPE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:00 PM on southbound State Route 99 near North Avenue.
Authorities said the driver of a Dodge Charger was traveling in the far left lane when the woman allegedly entered the roadway. The Charger struck the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the collision, though toxicology results for the pedestrian were pending at the time of reporting.
The identity of the deceased had not been confirmed at the time of reporting, and investigators were working to determine her name and age. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Partial Liability in Pedestrian Accidents
California Law does not consider pedestrians to have the right-of-way under all circumstances, such as when they attempt to cross outside of a crosswalk. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide pedestrians with a duty of care toward their safety.
It may therefore be determined that a motorist is subject to partial liability in a pedestrian accident. Should that be the case, they would be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
