Placer County, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, April 16, 2026, a head-on collision resulted in two fatalities and left one person hospitalized near Auburn, according to ABC10, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:55 PM on Foresthill Road just east of Lake Clementine Road, near Grizzly Ranch.
Authorities said a black SUV and a white sedan collided head-on, with both vehicles smoking and sustaining major front-end damage. Occupants were reported trapped inside at the time of the initial response.
The male driver of the black SUV and the female driver of the white sedan were both pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger in the black SUV sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital by air ambulance.
Foresthill Road was closed in both directions east of Lake Clementine Road with an unknown estimated time of reopening. A SigAlert was issued and Placer County Roads was contacted for signage and scene management. Two flatbed tow trucks were requested for the vehicles, both of which sustained major front-end damage. Investigators with camera equipment were dispatched to the scene to assist with documentation.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to have been factors in the collision. Both directions of Foresthill Road were confirmed reopened at approximately 6:15 PM. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
