Stockton, CA – On the afternoon of Sunday, March 29, 2026, a collision between a truck and a motorcycle resulted in the death of a 43-year-old Modesto man and left his passenger hospitalized with major injuries, according to ABC10, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:08 PM on Escalon-Bellota Road south of State Route 4.
Authorities said the 43-year-old man was operating a 2008 Honda motorcycle with a 41-year-old passenger when the motorcycle allegedly struck a Ford pickup truck that was towing a livestock trailer and had slowed to make a left turn. Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the impact.
The 43-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 1:23 PM. The 41-year-old passenger sustained major injuries and was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford pickup truck reported no injuries.
All lanes of Escalon-Bellota Road were blocked during the response while fire department and emergency personnel attended to the scene. The roadway was subsequently cleaned by fire department crews and reopened at approximately 3:43 PM.
Investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a personal injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming. As a neutral third party, an experienced personal injury attorney can help navigate these emotional complexities.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
