Fresno County, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, March 25, 2026, a three-vehicle collision resulted in the death of Nathan Lopez, 24, of Reedley, according to the Fresno Bee, with additional reporting from KSEE/KGPE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:30 AM at Dinuba and Zediker Avenues, southeast of Parlier.
Authorities said Lopez was driving a black Hyundai Elantra eastbound on Dinuba Avenue when he ran the stop sign at Zediker Avenue. The Hyundai crashed into a Nissan pickup traveling southbound on Zediker Avenue, and the force of the collision caused both vehicles to strike an Infiniti sedan that was stopped at the intersection. The Hyundai came to rest approximately 35 feet into a vineyard. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office formally identified him following the crash.
The other two drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. Authorities suspect that alcohol impairment may have been a contributing factor in the crash. Three tow trucks were requested for the vehicles involved.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Stop Sign Laws
California law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign (California Vehicle Code 22450). Drivers may only enter the intersection when it appears safe for all parties to do so (California Vehicle Code 21802).
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
