Bicyclist Julie Veress, 60, of Davis, Killed in Crash with E-Bike near West Covell Blvd, Catalina Dr

Davis, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, March 2, 2026, an e-bike-versus-bicycle collision resulted in the death of Julie Veress, 60, of Davis, and minor injuries to a second rider, according to the Sacramento Bee.

The Davis Police Department reports that the accident took place around 2:45 PM on the bike path near West Covell Boulevard and Catalina Drive, just north of the Davis Senior High School football field.

Officers and firefighters responded and found both bicyclists injured. Veress was pronounced dead at the scene. The second bicyclist, a 16-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries and was cooperating with investigators. Authorities later confirmed that the teen was riding an e-bike at the time of the collision.

Veress was an employee at Sutter Davis Hospital. Sutter Health officials released a statement describing her as a valued member of their team whose loss was deeply felt by those who had the privilege of working alongside her. The Yolo County Coroner’s Office formally identified Veress on Tuesday.

Authorities temporarily closed the bike path in the immediate area while investigators processed the scene. The exact circumstances of the collision remained under investigation, and the Davis Police Department said it had no further details to release regarding what led to the crash at the time of reporting.

Investigators asked anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has additional relevant information to contact the Davis Police Department.

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.

Accidents involving Minors

Until drivers reach the age of 18, California Law states that their parents have Vicarious Liability. This makes parents financially responsible for any damages their child causes while operating a vehicle. Vicarious Liability applies whether or not the parent was present with the child in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
