Fresno, CA – Fresno County officials have identified two pedestrians, Susie Mena, 70, and James Kyreacos, 49, who died after being struck by vehicles in separate collisions in late December and early January, according to The Fresno Bee.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reports that on the evening of Sunday, December 28, 2025, Susie Mena was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Fresno and E streets.
She was transported to a hospital later that day for unspecified medical reasons and subsequently died from her injuries. Authorities said her family has since been notified.
In a separate incident, officials said James Kyreacos was struck by a vehicle around 5:45 AM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Fresno Street and Pine Avenue.
He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Kyreacos’ family has also been notified.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
