Daly City, CA – On the morning of Thursday, January 1, 2026, a rollover traffic collision resulted in one fatality on northbound Interstate 280 near the Serramonte Boulevard on-ramp, according to Bay City News, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred around 11:10 AM when a gray SUV struck the center divider and overturned just north of Serramonte Boulevard.

Authorities stated that the passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. One additional occupant was reported trapped inside the vehicle, and emergency crews responded to conduct extrication efforts.

CHP logs indicate debris was scattered across the roadway, prompting a traffic break and the closure of the two left northbound lanes while firefighters, paramedics, and officers worked at the scene. A SigAlert was issued as crews conducted the investigation and removed the damaged vehicle.

The lanes were reopened later in the afternoon after the coroner responded and evidence towing was completed. The identity of the deceased has not been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
