Truckee, CA – 32-year-old Prabhjot Singh has been identified as the truck driver who lost his life in a single-vehicle big rig collision in the early hours of Sunday, November 16, 2025, according to ABC10.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:20 AM near westbound Interstate 80 east of Hirschdale Road, approximately four miles from the Nevada state line.
Authorities said Singh was driving a 2020 International in the No. 2 lane when he drifted onto the right shoulder, struck a guardrail, and went down a dirt embankment, causing the cab to overturn on its roof. Emergency personnel confirmed that the trailer remained partially suspended above the embankment and obstructed the No. 2 lane.
Officials noted that it was raining, cold, and cloudy at the time of the crash, and neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be contributing factors. Singh, a husband and father who had immigrated to the United States in 2023, died at the scene. A GoFundMe has been created to raise money to support his family during this difficult time.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
