Bakersfield, CA – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the 65-year-old woman killed in a pedestrian hit-and-run in the early hours of Sunday, August 3, 2025, as Mariana Cervantes Flores, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:43 AM at the intersection of Mount Vernon Avenue and Oregon Street.
Authorities said Flores, a Bakersfield resident, was walking southbound along Mount Vernon Avenue when she was struck by a white pickup truck traveling in the same direction. Investigators noted that it appeared she may have been outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash. The impact caused fatal injuries, and despite emergency personnel arriving within minutes, Flores was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck fled before officers arrived. Officials have not yet identified the driver and continue to seek information about the vehicle involved.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office later confirmed Flores’ identity and requested the public’s help in locating her next of kin. Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the collision or has knowledge of the suspect vehicle to contact the CHP Bakersfield Area office.
