Oildale, CA – On the evening of Sunday, October 26, 2025, a hit-and-run collision claimed the life of Melani Joann Seeger, 38, of Bakersfield, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash took place around 8:46 PM on Airport Drive, south of Roberts Lane.
According to investigators, Seeger was walking north along the east curb of Airport Drive when an unidentified vehicle traveling northbound struck her for reasons still under investigation. The impact propelled her body in a northeasterly direction, and the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Seeger was pronounced dead at the scene by responding authorities. The make and model of the vehicle involved remain unknown. The California Highway Patrol stated that it is not yet clear whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and CHP is asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Bakersfield Area office.
Hit-and-Runs and Wrongful Death Claims
The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death claim can financially support families grieving the loss of a loved one due to another person’s negligence. These funds can go toward hospital bills, burial expenses, and help support any dependents of the deceased.
In cases where the at-fault party escapes justice, families may still be able to pursue compensation through their own uninsured driver coverage. A personal injury attorney can offer guidance on what options they may have available and negotiate with insurance companies to ensure that victims receive the best settlement possible.
