Dirt Bike Rider with Spinal Injury Rescued in Madera County

Madera County, CA – On the morning of Sunday, October 12, 2025, a dirt bike accident left one rider with a severe spinal injury before being rescued through a 911 text alert sent from an Apple iPhone, according to KSEE.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident took place after the rider’s device transmitted GPS coordinates to emergency services. Corporal Williams, who was nearby, quickly responded to the scene and located the injured rider suffering from back injuries.

Madera County Search and Rescue, along with CHP Helicopter H42, the U.S. Forest Service, and Sierra Ambulance, worked together to reach the remote location. Due to the seriousness of the spinal injury, Deputy Chambers and rescue volunteer Burrows used specialized equipment to safely stabilize and extract the patient.

The rider was placed into a rescue airbag and lifted to the helicopter using a hoist system. They were then transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said the Search and Rescue team has responded to several similar incidents in recent weeks.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
