Newark, CA – On the evening of Thursday, September 25, 2025, a single-vehicle collision killed Anthony Andres Reynoza Monchez, 33, and Luis Alberto Deras, 31, according to Bay City News.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:30 PM near Thornton Avenue and Hickory Street.
Police responded to the crash and found one victim inside the vehicle and another nearby, indicating that one of the men had been ejected from the car during the impact. Emergency personnel attempted to assist, but both victims suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau identified the driver as Anthony Andres Reynoza Monchez of Hayward and the passenger as Luis Alberto Deras of Union City.
Newark police continue to review evidence and gather details about how the car lost control.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming. As a neutral third party, an experienced personal injury attorney can help navigate these emotional complexities.
