Pedestrian Struck, Killed by 2 Vehicles on Union Ave in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – On the night of Monday, September 15, 2025, a male pedestrian lost his life after being struck by two vehicles while attempting to cross Union Avenue, according to KGET.

The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the collision occurred around 10:00 PM near the 3300 block of Union Avenue.

Officers said the man stepped into the roadway when a pickup truck traveling on Union Avenue hit him. After the initial impact, the man remained in the street. A second vehicle then struck him while he was still on the roadway. Emergency personnel arrived quickly, but the man’s injuries were fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the driver of the pickup truck stayed on scene and cooperated fully with police. Officers noted that the driver showed no signs of impairment, and preliminary observations indicate that speed did not play a role in the crash.

The second driver left the scene immediately and has not been identified. Police are actively seeking information about the vehicle and the person responsible for the second impact.

Authorities closed the area temporarily to process the scene. Officers documented evidence, interviewed witnesses, and collected information from both vehicles to understand the full sequence of events.

Bakersfield Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to them. This is an ongoing investigation.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.

California Hit-and-Run Laws

California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.
