Fresno, CA – On the morning of Tuesday, August 12, 2025, a hit-and-run collision with a big rig left a person on a motorized scooter with fatal injuries, according to The Fresno Bee.
The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place around 7:00 AM at the intersection of Blythe Avenue and Gates Avenue.
Authorities said the victim was riding a motorized scooter behind a WinCo store when the big rig struck them. Emergency responders arrived and confirmed the victim had died from injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of family.
A citizen witnessed the collision and followed the big rig. They contacted police while tracking the vehicle to the area of Ashlan Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. Officers stopped the truck and spoke with the driver, who cooperated with the investigation. Fresno Police said preliminary findings do not indicate that alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
Investigators noted that it is possible the driver did not realize the collision had occurred. The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is conducting a full investigation, and authorities have not determined whether charges will be filed.
Gates Avenue remained closed near Blythe Avenue for several hours while investigators documented the scene and cleared debris. This is an ongoing investigation.
