July 19, 2025, Fresno, CA: A man was arrested following a fatal accident on a roadway in Fresno that was likely caused by DUI on Saturday.
According to information provided by Your Central Valley, the accident happened around 2 p.m. on Newmark Avenue just south of Jefferson Avenue. Police confirmed that 59-year-old Refujio Perez was driving a Nissan Rogue headed southbound on Newmark when he drifted onto the dirt shoulder, slamming into the back of a parked Toyota Corolla.
There was an 89-year-old man sitting in the driver’s seat of the Toyota at the time. Due to the impact of the collision, he and his vehicle were pushed into three other parked vehicles. He was tragically pronounced dead on scene as a result of his injuries.
Police said Perez only sustained minor injuries in the accident. He was medically cleared and then charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol, and causing injury. He was booked but has since posted bail.
No further details have been released but police continue their investigation into the collision.
