Sacramento, CA – On the morning of Thursday, July 17, 2025, a motorcycle crash resulted in the death of the rider, according to KCRA, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The CHP reports that the collision occurred at approximately 1:00 AM on the northbound side of Highway 99, just south of 12th Avenue.
Preliminary information indicates that the motorcyclist lost control of the bike for reasons still under investigation. The rider struck the rear of a car and was ejected onto the roadway. Emergency crews arriving on the scene found the rider lying in one of the middle lanes. Despite life-saving efforts, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP immediately issued a SigAlert, shutting down all lanes of northbound Highway 99 while the fire department, Sacramento police, and Caltrans crews responded. A full traffic break was conducted, and the coroner was called to recover the body. The roadway remained closed for several hours while officials documented evidence, cleared debris, and ensured the area was safe for reopening.
The identity of the deceased motorcyclist is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
At this time, no other injuries have been reported. Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
