Turlock, CA – On the morning of Monday, July 14, 2025, a two-vehicle collision involving a big rig and a sedan killed Armando Garcia, 34, according to KSEE, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred around 10:15 AM at the intersection of South Carpenter Road and West Monte Vista Avenue.
Investigators say Garcia, driving a white Toyota sedan eastbound on Monte Vista Avenue, entered the intersection after stopping at a posted sign. At the same time, a 2020 Freightliner driven by a Fresno man was traveling southbound on South Carpenter Road. The Freightliner struck the left side of the Toyota, causing fatal injuries to Garcia, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The impact left both vehicles with significant damage. Emergency responders closed the roadway while paramedics, firefighters, and towing services responded. Tow trucks removed the heavily damaged Toyota and the Freightliner, which had a flat tire and front-end damage.
Officials did not report any other injuries, and the driver of the Freightliner remained at the scene. The crash also damaged an irrigation box, prompting a response from the Turlock Irrigation District.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
Stop Sign Laws
California Law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign (California Vehicle Code 22450). Drivers may only enter the intersection when it appears safe for all parties to do so (California Vehicle Code 21802).
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
