July 7, 2025, Coalinga, CA: A man tragically lost his life in a big rig accident on a highway in Coalinga on Monday evening.
According to information provided by Your Central Valley, the collision took place around 5 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-5 around the area of Highway 198. Police confirmed that a man was driving a Honda Civic on the highway while a 24-year-old man was traveling southbound in a Freightliner Cascadia big rig. Due to reasons that remain under investigation, the two forcefully collided.
The driver of the Honda was tragically pronounced dead on scene as a result of his injuries. The driver of the big rig was not hurt but remained on scene.
No further details have been released but California Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the collision at this time.
