San Bernardino County, CA – On the morning of Sunday, July 6, 2025, a multi-vehicle collision involving fire and rollover resulted in fatal injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 12:08 AM on the southbound side of Highway 395 near mile marker 68.00.
Initial reports described a solo vehicle rollover involving a gray Honda Odyssey van, which landed on its roof. Moments later, authorities confirmed that multiple vehicles were involved, including a vehicle that caught fire itself and started a small brush fire.
Some parties were reported trapped inside the burning or overturned vehicles, and Cal Fire was dispatched to manage the blaze. Emergency responders confirmed at least one fatality at the scene, and the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office was called to respond at approximately 1:39 AM. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
A full road closure was enacted with Caltrans assisting in diverting traffic at Kramer Junction and Trona Road. Cleanup efforts were prolonged due to fluid spills and debris along the highway. Traffic was temporarily rerouted while crews worked throughout the night to secure and clear the roadway.
Officials have not yet determined whether excessive speed, driver impairment, or environmental conditions contributed to the fatal incident.
Anyone with information regarding the crash is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
