Suspected DUI Crash at Tully Rd, Galveston Ave Kills 1, Injures 1 in San Jose

San Jose, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, June 11, 2025, a single-vehicle crash in which DUI is suspected left one woman dead and another injured, according to Bay City News.

The San Jose Police Department reports that the collision took place around 3:10 AM in the 800 block of Tully Road near Galveston Avenue.

According to investigators, a 2015 blue Toyota sedan was traveling eastbound on Tully Road when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with a tree. Emergency crews arrived shortly after the crash and transported two female passengers to a local hospital. One of the women was pronounced dead from her injuries shortly after arrival.

The male driver of the vehicle was treated at the scene and subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the individuals involved.

As part of the investigation, eastbound Tully Road has been closed between Galveston Avenue and Senter Road.

The collision marks the 12th traffic-related death in San Jose so far this year.

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.

Passenger Liability

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
