Fatal, Fiery Motorcycle Crash Involving Big Rig near I-580, Isabel Ave in Livermore

Livermore, CA – In the early hours of Tuesday, June 3, 2025, a multi-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a big rig led to a fatality and a vehicle fire, according to NBC Bay Area, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash occurred at approximately 2:40 AM  on eastbound Interstate 580 near the Isabel Avenue off-ramp. A motorcyclist went down in the fifth lane of traffic and was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles. A sedan believed to have struck the rider remained on the shoulder, and its driver cooperated with authorities.

One vehicle involved in the crash, a diesel-powered truck, was reported to be fully engulfed in flames by 2:50 AM. Emergency crews worked to extinguish the flames while coordinating with CHP officers to secure the scene. A SigAlert was issued shortly after 3:00 AM, closing all eastbound lanes from Airway Boulevard to Isabel Avenue due to the severity of the crash and fire.

The CHP confirmed at least one fatality as a result of the incident by 3:20 AM. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next-of-kin.

Emergency personnel requested additional support from Caltrans to address hazardous conditions, including spilled oil in the traffic lanes. Throughout the morning, authorities worked to reopen lanes in phases. By 4:27 AM, two lanes were open to traffic, with all lanes fully reopened by 7:29 AM.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No statement has been made regarding the possible impact of driver impairment upon the accident.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.  Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
