Folsom, CA – The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified 42-year-old Cory Glenn Hakala of El Dorado Hills as the man who lost his life in a single-vehicle collision on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 27, 2025, according to ABC10.
The Folsom Police Department reports that the accident took place around 4:00 PM at the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Iron Point Road.
Authorities say Hakala was driving alone when his vehicle veered off the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation and struck a tree. Responding officers and emergency medical personnel from the Folsom Fire Department arrived shortly after the crash and discovered Hakala inside the vehicle, unresponsive and not breathing. Despite immediate attempts to perform life-saving measures at the scene, including CPR, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
There were no other passengers in the vehicle, and no additional vehicles were involved in the incident. The area around Folsom Boulevard and Iron Point Road was temporarily closed to traffic as investigators from the Folsom Police Department’s Major Accident Response Team examined the scene and collected evidence.
Officials have not yet determined whether speed, mechanical failure, or a medical emergency may have contributed to the crash. Toxicology reports and additional findings from the ongoing investigation may provide further information in the coming days.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
