Driver Injured In Crash with Big Rig on Hwy 99 near Fresno St

Fresno, CA – On the evening of Saturday, May 31, 2025, a collision involving a big rig resulted in major injuries to one driver, according to ABC30.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:34 PM on the southbound shoulder of Highway 99 near Fresno Street.

Authorities stated that a big rig experiencing mechanical issues had pulled over to the shoulder of the highway when a Ford Taurus, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed on the shoulder, slammed into the rear of the trailer. The impact caused extensive damage to the front end of the Taurus and moderate damage to the commercial vehicle’s trailer.

The driver of the Taurus, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, suffered major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. No other injuries were reported, and the driver of the big rig was not harmed.

Photographs released by investigators show the Ford Taurus with severe front-end damage and the trailer with visible rear-end impact. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including the speed of the vehicle and the driver’s behavior prior to the collision.

CHP officials reiterated the importance of obeying traffic laws, wearing seatbelts, and avoiding reckless driving. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Personal Injury Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a Personal Injury Claim with the responsible party’s insurance, which can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
