Bakersfield Child, 11, Struck by Vehicle while Riding Bicycle at Owens, Quincy St

Bakersfield, CA – On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, a vehicle-versus-bicycle collision left an 11-year-old child in critical condition, according to KBAK.

The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the crash occurred around 4:50 PM at the intersection of Owens Street and Quincy Street in east Bakersfield.

Preliminary details indicate the child was riding a bicycle eastbound on Quincy Street when they were struck by a silver sedan traveling southbound on Owens Street. The intersection, which lacks traffic control devices such as stop signs or signals, is located in a residential area with a 25 MPH speed limit.

Emergency medical personnel transported the injured bicyclist by ambulance to a local hospital, where the child remains in critical condition. Authorities stated that the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Police have ruled out excessive speed and impairment as contributing factors in the crash. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department.

Personal Injury Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a Personal Injury Claim with the responsible party’s insurance, which can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
