Waterman, Sheldon Rd Single-Vehicle Crash Kills 2 in Elk Grove

Elk Grove, CA – On the morning of Tuesday, May 13, 2025, a single-vehicle collision resulted in fatal injuries to two adults, according to The Sacramento Bee, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 5:00 AM near Waterman Road, just south of Sheldon Road.

According to investigators, the vehicle was traveling northbound on Waterman Road when it lost control and collided with a light pole. Both occupants, who have not yet been identified, were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is working to confirm the identities of the victims and notify their families. Police shut down Waterman Road between Elliot Springs Drive and Sheldon Road for several hours while crews conducted an on-scene investigation. The road was reopened shortly before 11:00 AM.

Authorities stated that speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. Investigators are continuing to determine whether alcohol or drug impairment may also have contributed to the collision.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.

Passenger Liability

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
