Fresno, CA – On the evening of Sunday, April 27, 2025, a two-vehicle collision resulted in significant injuries, according to The Fresno Police Bee.
The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place around 6:30 PM at the intersection of Hughes and Griffith avenues.
Authorities stated that a vehicle traveling northbound on Hughes Avenue at a high rate of speed collided with another vehicle that entered Hughes from Griffith Avenue, possibly after running a stop sign. One man was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries. The condition of the second driver remains unknown at this time.
Police said both drivers are suspected of driving under the influence, and the department’s traffic unit is actively investigating the circumstances of the crash. No further information regarding arrests or charges has been released as of this report.
Stop Sign Laws
California Law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign (California Vehicle Code 22450). Drivers may only enter the intersection when it appears safe for all parties to do so (California Vehicle Code 21802).
California DUI Law
Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”
Personal Injury Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a Personal Injury Claim with the responsible party’s insurance, which can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
