Fresno County, CA – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified 34-year-old Gabrielle Mammen of Firebaugh as the woman who was fatally injured after stepping out of a truck in motion on the evening of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, according to KSEE.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 9:00 PM near the intersection of Millerton Road and North Fork Road in Friant.
Mammen was riding in the front passenger seat of a pickup truck when she exited the moving vehicle. She was run over by one of the truck’s rear tires and died at the scene from her injuries.
Authorities say the driver, a 20-year-old man identified as Mammen’s boyfriend, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. He told investigators he was driving approximately 40 miles per hour at the time. Emergency personnel confirmed Mammen was pronounced dead at the location despite resuscitation efforts.
CHP officials stated that drugs, alcohol, and domestic violence have been ruled out as factors for the driver, who has not been taken into custody. Toxicology results for Mammen are still pending. Investigators are continuing to review the incident and are seeking any available surveillance footage to assist with the case.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
Partial Liability in Pedestrian Accidents
California Law does not consider pedestrians to have the right-of-way under all circumstances, such as if they attempt to cross outside of a crosswalk. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide pedestrians with a Duty of Care toward their safety.
It may therefore be determined that a motorist is subject to only partial liability in a pedestrian accident. Should that be the case, they would be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
