Multi-Vehicle Crash near I-80, Horseshoe Bar Road in Loomis, Placer County, Injures CHP Officer

Placer County, CA – On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, a three-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 80 in Placer County resulted in serious injuries to a California Highway Patrol officer, according to ABC10.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash occurred around 12:00 PM east of Horseshoe Bar Road in Loomis, where an officer had pulled over a car on the south shoulder.

A Toyota Highlander traveling in the eastbound lanes collided with the rear of the patrol vehicle, then continued east and struck a tow truck. The Toyota rolled over and landed back on its wheels in the eastbound lanes of I-80.

The CHP officer and a passenger in the patrol vehicle were both transported to the hospital with suspected serious injuries, while the Toyota driver sustained only minor injuries.

No drugs or alcohol are suspected to have played a role in the crash, which is still under investigation.

Personal Injury Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a Personal Injury Claim with the responsible party’s insurance, which can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
