Sacramento, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, a motorcycle collision on a freeway connector resulted in the death of 50-year-old Shaun Wayne Sutterfield of Sacramento, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP)reports that the accident took place around 8:30 PM on the southbound Interstate 5 connector to Highway 50.
Officials say Sutterfield collided with a car while riding his motorcycle along the transition ramp. The impact threw him over the side of the elevated ramp, causing him to fall to the ground below at the intersection of Front Street and Broadway.
Emergency responders pronounced Sutterfield dead at the scene. The driver of the car was not injured.
The connector ramp remained partially closed while officials conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. CHP has not yet released information about what led to the collision, and it remains unclear whether speed, impairment, or other factors were involved.
The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate and urges anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact their South Sacramento office.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
