Dirt Bike Crash at Hwy 33, San Joaquin Ave Kills Rider near Coalinga in Fresno County

Fresno County, CA – On the evening of Sunday, April 13, 2025, a single-vehicle dirt bike crash resulted in the rider losing their life, according to ABC30.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the collision took place around 8:00 PM near the intersection of Highway 33 and San Joaquin Avenue, in a rural area just outside the city of Coalinga.

According to investigators, a man was operating a dirt bike along the shoulder of the westbound lanes of Highway 33 when he veered off the shoulder and crossed over onto an access road located near an orchard.

As he entered the roadway, he struck a wire that was positioned across the path. The impact caused the rider to be thrown from the dirt bike and suffer major trauma. Emergency responders arrived on the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at the site of the crash.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. There were no other vehicles involved in the collision, and no additional injuries were reported.

Authorities say the cause of the incident remains under investigation. However, based on preliminary findings, CHP does not believe that alcohol or drug impairment played a role in the crash. Officers continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the placement of the wire and whether it was marked or visible to approaching traffic.

The roadway remained open to traffic, though caution was advised in the immediate area during the investigation.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
