Olivehurst, CA – On the afternoon of Wednesday, April 2, 2025, a rollover crash resulted in the death of an 18-year-old driver from North Highlands, according to CBS13 with additional details from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Yuba-Sutter division reports that the crash occurred around 2:11 PM on the right-hand shoulder of southbound State Route 65 near the McGowan Parkway off-ramp.
When emergency crews arrived, they found a 2015 Toyota Camry with extensive rollover damage. Witnesses had stopped to assist, cutting the driver’s seatbelt and attempting life-saving measures before paramedics arrived. Despite all efforts, the Toyota’s driver, an 18-year-old North Highlands man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Toyota was attempting to pass a black Honda Accord in the center divider of SR-65. As the Toyota moved forward, the Honda reportedly turned left, striking the Toyota’s right rear. The impact caused the Toyota to lose control, spin counterclockwise, and veer off the roadway, eventually colliding with the McGowan Parkway overcrossing embankment and overturning multiple times.
The Honda’s driver, a 22-year-old man, was not injured, but a passenger in the Honda sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Two additional passengers in the Toyota also suffered moderate to minor injuries and were transported for medical care.
The identity of the deceased driver will be released by the Yuba County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office once the next of kin have been notified.
Authorities confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances leading up to the collision.
Personal Injury Claims
After a traffic accident, victims and their families often deal with unexpected financial burdens, such as medical bills, lost income, and, in the worst cases, burial costs. A Personal Injury Claim allows accident victims to hold the at-fault party financially responsible for their cost of care.
Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a personal injury claim with the responsible party’s insurance.
