Yuba County, CA – The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office has identified 14-year-old Emirt Rivera Barrera of Olivehurst as the young man who lost his life in a rollover crash on the afternoon of Saturday, March 29, 2025, according to KCRA.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 3:25 PM near the Feather River Boulevard exit on northbound Highway 70.
Investigators determined that a silver or white SUV made an unsafe lane change, causing a Honda Pilot to lose control and overturn. The vehicle left the roadway and came to rest approximately 50 feet down a dirt embankment.
Emergency responders arrived and found Barrera, who was unresponsive inside the vehicle. Life-saving measures were attempted, but he succumbed to his injuries. The Honda’s driver, a 53-year-old man, and a 12-year-old passenger reported pain, while a 47-year-old woman in the vehicle was uninjured.
Officials have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
