Tehachapi, CA – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified two victims killed in a three-vehicle collision on the morning of Friday, November 15, 2024, as 34-year-old Edgardo Alexander Flores Rivera of Modesto and his passenger, 34-year-old Kathleen Marie Renteria Flores of Milpitas, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred around 8 AM on Highway 58, west of Sand Canyon Road.
Rivera was said to have been driving a Mitsubishi Outlander eastbound when he lost control, hit the center median, and collided with a Ford F-250. A Toyota Tacoma then struck the F-250.
Both Rivera and Renteria Flores were pronounced dead at the scene. The nature of their relationship has not been specified. A child riding in the Outlander survived but suffered major injuries. Authorities said the driver of the F-250 and a person in the Tacoma sustained minor injuries.
Officials have not determined the exact cause of the accident. It had rained overnight in Tehachapi, with snow reported around 6 AM. The CHPl is continuing its investigation.
