DUI Suspect Peter Terence Wells, 49, Arrested after Hwy 46, Golden Hill Rd Hit-and-Run Injures Driver in Paso Robles

Paso Robles, CA – On the evening of Monday, March 24, 2025, a suspected DUI hit-and-run collision involving Peter Terence Wells, 49, of Bakersfield, caused injuries to himself and another driver, according to The San Luis Obispo Tribune.

The Paso Robles Police Department reports that the accident took place around 8:30 PM at the intersection of Highway 46 and Golden Hill Road

Authorities state that Wells was driving a 2015 Jeep when he collided with a 2020 Ford pickup truck. The driver of the truck, who remained conscious at the scene, complained of head and neck pain and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Witnesses told police that Wells fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. Authorities later found him hiding in the Eagle Energy Gas Station parking lot on Golden Hill Road. When approached, he attempted to escape but was caught after a brief pursuit.

Officers noted that he showed signs of alcohol intoxication and had sustained visible injuries to his face as a result of the crash. His booking photo later revealed deep cuts on his forehead and face, some of which had been stitched closed.

Once Wells received medical clearance, he was taken into custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail. He faces charges including felony DUI causing injury, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher, and obstruction of a peace officer. Jail records show he remained in custody as of Tuesday morning, with bail set at $100,000.

Paso Robles police continue to investigate the collision and encourage anyone with information to contact the department.

California Hit-and-Run Laws

California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.

Personal Injury Claims

When the actions of reckless drivers cause others to be injured, the cost of recovery should not fall on their victims. Filing a Personal Injury Claim with the at-fault party’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
