Bakersfield, CA – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified 31-year-old Maxwell Donovan Johnson as the Bakersfield pedestrian who was fatally injured after being struck by a vehicle on the morning of Friday, March 21, 2025, according to KGET.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash occurred around 5:51 AM on Weedpatch Highway, just south of Highway 58.
Investigators say that Johnson was walking along the roadway when he was hit by a Mazda truck. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found Johnson deceased. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Officials briefly closed the roadway while officers conducted their investigation. It remains unclear what factors contributed to the crash, including whether speed, visibility, or pedestrian right-of-way played a role.
