Barstow, CA – On the late evening of Tuesday, March 18, 2025, a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 North near the Hodge Road off-ramp resulted in at least one fatality, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 11:20 PM when a black Honda Civic lost control and overturned before coming to rest on its wheels near a residence.
Initial reports indicated smoke and hazards at the scene. Emergency responders arrived to find the vehicle severely damaged on the right-hand shoulder embankment.
Authorities confirmed that two occupants were inside the car at the time of the crash. The extent of injuries was not immediately available, but at least one fatality was reported. The incident also caused damage to roadside infrastructure, including a highway sign and a pole near the Hodge Road exit.
CHP is investigating the cause of the crash, including whether speed, impairment, or road conditions played a role. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
