Fresno, CA – Authorities have identified Maria Paredes as the 74-year-old woman who was fatally struck by a vehicle while using a walker on the morning of Saturday, March 15, 2025, according to The Fresno Bee.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the collision took place around 5:30 AM on Clinton Avenue, east of Bond Street.
Investigations indicate that a Toyota Avalon was traveling westbound on Clinton Avenue when it struck Paredes, who was in the westbound lanes. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota immediately stopped, called 911, and cooperated fully with authorities during the investigation. CHP officials said alcohol and drugs were not suspected factors in the crash.
Investigators noted that the area is extremely dark due to a lack of streetlights, as it is located in a county pocket.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact the California Highway Patrol.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
