Fresno, CA – On the night of Saturday, March 15, 2025, a woman was fatally struck in a hit-and-run on a Highway 99 on-ramp near downtown Fresno, according to The Fresno Bee.
The CHP reports that the collision occurred around 7:55 PM on the Golden State Boulevard on-ramp to northbound Highway 99.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the woman lying in the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet identified her but believe she may have been unhoused.
A witness reported seeing a pickup truck pulling a trailer in the area at the time of the crash, but investigators have not confirmed if that vehicle was involved. CHP officials also noted that the lack of lighting in the area may have contributed to the incident and that other vehicles may have struck the victim after the initial collision.
The driver who struck the woman fled the scene, and CHP is urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
California Hit-and-Run Laws
California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income.
