Fair Oaks, CA – The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified 25-year-old Juan Israel Ratzan Chicajua of Citrus Heights as the driver who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash after his car struck a tree on the evening of Wednesday, March 12, 2025, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred around 7:35 PM on Sunset Avenue, west of Main Street.
Chicajua was driving a Honda Civic eastbound when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the roadway, and collided with a tree. Officials noted that the crash happened on a night of heavy rain in the Sacramento region and said that excessive speed may have played a role.
Emergency responders arrived to find Chicajua trapped inside the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. The CHP continues to investigate the incident.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
