Bakersfield, CA – The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified 47-year-old Lister Mora Prudencio of Bakersfield as the pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle on the evening of Sunday, March 9, 2025, according to CHP Fatal with additional reporting from KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 10:41 PM on Edison Highway at the Mount Vernon Avenue overpass.
Investigators said a 46-year-old man was driving a gray 2004 Toyota Scion westbound in the number two lane when Prudencio was crossing Edison Highway on foot. The driver struck Prudencio and came to a stop on the right-hand shoulder.
Emergency responders were called to the scene at 10:44 PM and found Prudencio down in the roadway. The vehicle remained parked on the right shoulder, and three men were seen standing outside the vehicle near the victim. At 10:59 PM, the coroner was notified, and Prudencio was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later coordinated vehicle removal from the location, with records showing a related secondary dispatch just after midnight. The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.
CHP has not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
