Delano, CA – Authorities have identified 36-year-old Jonathan Emman Parra Gordillo as the driver killed in a head-on collision on the night of Saturday, February 1, 2025, according to the KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 10:56 PM on Highway 43, north of Cecil Way. A Tesla Model 3 was traveling southbound when a northbound Nissan Sentra veered left out of its lane and into the path of the Tesla.
The Tesla driver was unable to avoid a collision, and the two vehicles crashed head-on. Gordillo, the driver of the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle caught fire. Emergency responders transported the Tesla driver to Kern Medical with severe injuries.
The injured driver was later identified in a GoFundMe campaign as “Correctional Officer A. Ortiz”, though no further details about his condition were released.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and have not determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact CHP as the investigation continues.
