Around 6:22 p.m. on Wednesday evening, a man was killed in a fatal car accident in Bakersfield. According to information provided by KGET, the collision happened on Highway 65 around the area of Sherwood Avenue on the evening of May 29, 2024.
California Highway Patrol arrived on scene, where they discovered that three vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on the highway. Investigators found that a Toyota was traveling in the southbound lane when the driver started to pass a vehicle in the other lane of traffic. At that time, a Dodge that was traveling south collided with the Toyota head-on. A third vehicle was also involved in the crash. The Dodge and Toyota came to a rest down an embankment off the side of the road.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Toyota was tragically pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the Dodge sustained major injuries and was rushed to Kern Medical while the driver of the third vehicle was rushed to the hospital with minor injuries. Police claim that two people were pinned in their vehicles and had to be extricated.
Due to the severity of the accident, all lanes of traffic were blocked around the area of Sherwood Avenue until 10 p.m.
