On Saturday morning, two people were killed and nine sustained injuries in a car accident on a major highway in Bakersfield. According to Your Central Valley reports, the collision happened around 7:30 a.m. on I-5 near Millux Road on January 6, 2024.

When Kern County officials arrived on scene, they discovered that dozens of vehicles collided in a pile-up accident during foggy conditions on the highway. Visibility was around 10 feet in front of them when several vehicles and big rigs lost control. Fire Department officials confirmed that the accident involved a total of 35 vehicles, which was made up of 17 passenger vehicles and 18 big rigs.

Paramedics and numerous other local responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Two victims involved in the collision were tragically pronounced dead on scene due to traumatic injuries. A total of nine other victims were hospitalized, though their current conditions remain unknown.

Due to the severity of the collision, southbound lanes were closed until Sunday afternoon. Police confirmed that the accident was spread out about a half mile onto the roadway with debris scattered everywhere.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
