Suspected DUI Accident on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo Leads to Injuries
On Wednesday afternoon, a suspected DUI accident involving a wrong-way driver led to injuries in San Luis Obispo. The accident, according to KSBY reports, took place around 3:45 p.m. on Highway 101 near Broad Street on the afternoon of December 27, 2023.
When California Highway Patrol officials arrived on scene, they discovered that a 47-year-old driver was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when the vehicle collided with a sedan and a pickup truck. The driver then got out of his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene but police were able to take him into custody.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A female driver in one of the involved sedans was rushed to the hospital with a leg injury. The parties inside the pickup truck did not sustain injuries.
The driver who was traveling in the wrong direction was arrested on suspicion of both hit-and-run, as well as driving under the influence of drugs.
Due to the severity of the accident, traffic was slow for several hours on the highway.
California Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the circumstances of the accident at this time.
