A man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident on a highway in Merced on Wednesday night. According to news provided by Your Central Valley, the accident took place at 9:18 p.m. on Highway 99 near the area of Sultana Drive on December 13, 2023.
California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered that a man was struck by several vehicles. The driver of the initial van that struck the pedestrian, identified as a 33-year-old man, was traveling on the highway when he swerved to the left to avoid striking the pedestrian. However, the vehicle still collided with him, followed by several other vehicles. The driver remained on scene until police arrived.
Paramedics arrived on scene to assist the pedestrian. The pedestrian, identified as a 36-year-old man, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
The Merced Office of the California Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the collision.
