One Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Accident on Windsor Drive in Thousand Oaks

Thousand Oaks is home to many pedestrians who walk from one place to another, such as visiting friends or places of employment. Unfortunately, dangers lurk around every corner for pedestrians, especially when vehicles are in the area. In all of 2022, the Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) estimated that 23 pedestrian accidents occurred in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County. Out of these accidents, two pedestrians were killed and 23 were injured.

Pedestrian accidents are frequently catastrophic due to the fact that these parties are especially vulnerable on our roads. Especially in the event of a hit-and-run accident, a pedestrian may not receive medical attention until it is too late, which means that their injuries could worsen or a life could be taken. If you have lost a loved one due to a preventable pedestrian accident, there are options for your family.

Man Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Accident at Windsor Drive Intersection in Thousand Oaks

On Saturday morning, a man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident at an intersection in Thousand Oaks. VC Star reported that the accident happened around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Windsor Drive and East Janss Road on the morning of December 9, 2023.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a man lying on a nearby sidewalk. Paramedics were dispatched to assist the 31-year-old victim, who was tragically pronounced dead on scene due to traumatic injuries.

Police spoke with witnesses and determined that a vehicle was traveling westbound on Janss when they collided with the pedestrian near the intersection. The driver immediately fled the scene headed westbound and made a northbound turn onto Montgomery Road until they could not be found.

Police blocked off the intersection for approximately five hours until the scene was cleared. They did not confirm if they found the driver responsible for the accident.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision continues.

Options for Recovery for Families Who Have Lost Loved Ones in Thousand Oaks Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents

Because a driver flees the scene without stopping to check on a pedestrian, hit-and-run accidents tend to be incredibly devastating and life-altering. A pedestrian without immediate medical care and severe injuries could have an increased chance of their condition worsening before paramedics arrive on scene. Where should a family turn if they have lost a loved one in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident?

As a family grieves the loss of a loved one due to one of these tragic accidents, they may wonder how they can financially recover for their loved one’s losses. Here are two scenarios that could occur:

  • A hit-and-run driver may not ever be found, which means that a family can file a claim against their uninsured motorist coverage for financial recovery.
  • A hit-and-run driver may be apprehended by police, which means that you can bring a wrongful death claim against an at-fault party.

If you are looking at the option of bringing a wrongful death claim after a fatal pedestrian accident, it is important that you act quickly to retain your rights.
